As one of the most recognizable species in the world, lemon sharks are an iconic attraction in Cape Verde. Known for the light yellow hue of their underbellies, these sharks are just one of 1,000 shark species on the globe. With our exceptional shark-watching experience, you can get up close and personal with these remarkable creatures.
The Activity
We think it’s safe to say that most people do not want to come face-to-face with a shark, and that’s with good reason. However, we encourage you to cast your fears aside and experience this one-of-a-kind tour. Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by your tour guide, who will take you on a quick 25-minute ride to the eastern side of the island. Once you arrive at the lemon shark nursery, the native sharks will swim through your legs as they come up to shore. Don’t worry; these sharks are friendly and do not pose any threats to humans unless they are, of course, provoked. However, it is essential to note that these are wild animals, so it is always best to act cautiously.
Conservation

Cape Verde is home to over sixty species of sharks, including whale and tiger sharks. While the shark population is not extensively exploited in acts like finning and hunting, they are facing threats that are on the rise. Cape Verde’s shark community is still at risk due to illegal and excessive fishing, pollution, and climate change. We are committed to protecting lemon sharks and other species at risk. That is why we’ve sponsored Project Biodiversity, an organization dedicated to protecting our wildlife and environment. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we all do our part to change the narrative of environmental damage. It is up to us to work together to save our planet and its endangered species.
But wait, there’s more.
On this special activity, you can expect not only to hang out with lemon sharks up, but you’ll also embark on a tour worthy of lots of picture taking. After waving goodbye to the sharks, you’ll be whisked away to the magnificent Pedra de Lume. During this tour, you’ll wander and step foot on top of an old crater of an ancient volcano. You’ll find the second saltiest water in the world here. Before you leave, you’ll also learn the iconic history of this popular attraction of Sal island.
