START – PICK UP AND TRASNFERS
You will be picked up at your hotel and after a short transfer to the airport of Sal, you will take a 45 minute flight to Praia (Santiago Island), the capital of Cape Verde.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY
The tour starts in Praia with the visit of the city center, going through the historic district “Plateau” and the “Sucupira” fruit market.
Afterwards it continues to Cidade Velha, the first city built by Europeans in West Africa, where you can find some historic remains.
For centuries Cidade Velha has been a strategic point between Africa and the Americas for warehousing, slave trade, water and food supply, ship repair and agricultural laboratory.
In 2009 it also became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From Cidade Velha you get view of the Fortress of Sao Filipe, which was built to defend from pirates who have been attacking the city in the 16th and 17th century.
The lunch is held in one of the local restaurants where you can enjoy some typical Cape Verdean dishes.
After lunch the tour continues inland, towards the foot of Peak Antonia (the highest mountain of the island with 1.394m), to end with a visit to a grogue distillery where you can see the process of how local Rhum is produced.
