Praia Ervatão

A prime location for surfers, kitesurfers, and windsurfers. A large bay where left-hand waves of up to 4 meters roll in with a side offshore wind. It is a coastal area situated in the southeast of the island, a must-visit spot for water sports enthusiasts. In addition to the beautiful beach, it serves as a nesting site for turtles, being part of a network of beaches in the area that are visited by thousands of turtles.

Ervatão Beach is a threatened turtle nesting site. However, efforts are being made for its preservation. Since 1998, awareness and training camps for turtle conservation have been conducted on-site, both nationally and internationally, including surveillance activities. The non-governmental environmental conservation organization Natura 2000 is now established in the area, monitoring this zone.
